I just really love this video... we were riding into a school in Kisumu on the back of a ute to visit Pete's sponsor child and this was the greeting we got...

So Lamu... Our tropical island holiday was absolutely amazing- Lamu is gorgeous in every way. Located just off the coast of Kenya north of Melindee, it's a beautiful, old Islamic settlement with so much history and intrigue that one week was definitely not enough. And if you get tired of wandering around the bustling, narrow streets, there's always the kilometers of pristine white sand beaches and the beautifully warm Indian ocean to swim in...
So there's only a few cars on the island, one for the DC and a 3-wheeled 'Tuk-tuk' which is the ambulance. apart from that we saw a tractor and a motorbike, and everyone else gets around by foot, donkey or dhow (boat). We became known quickly as 'the girls who walk everywhere' because of our limited budget, despite the constant offers by 'captains' (everyone's a captain... there are more captains than boats) of dhow rides or by entrepreneurs of donkey rides (an when I say 'constant you think I'm exaggerating...).
We were pleasantly surprised when we arrived to have an entire, three-story guest house to ourselves, so we slept on the rooftop each night and enjoyed extended, peaceful mornings of prayer. Despite the rather morbid manager (who had fairly distinct views on 'those Americans' and all things not Kenyan) the place was a perfect escape and truly (literally...) a God-send for Shayla and I. I'm so glad we got to spend that time together before I abandoned her :) and so glad also that Shayla got o have a well-deserved break halfway through a difficult 8 month assignment. It was truly a once in a lifetime experience, though for God all things are possible so perhaps one day we'll both get to do it all again... :)

By popular demand...

So I feel this video requires some description... throw your mind back to youth conference a few months back, the highlight of which was the sessions each afternoon where the kids could make 'presentations', song a song, do a dance, etc. A couple of the guys, Edu and Arthur i think (?) did a 'traditional Luhya dance' in old overalls and really bad hats, so Shayla and I decided to respond with a traditional American dance- what else but jazzercise? Fortunately, the camera battery ran out halfway through :) so you'll see the first part of fine stylin' jazzercise in normal, double and triple time, and the fun the kids had joining in, then the way they gradually just stopped and stared in horror... :)
Just want to add a disclaimer that I'm not the one who asked for this video...

Videos!

So Melissa's asked for videos... This first one (Bible Club 1) will make you feel a little seasick (that's my high qual video technique). So every Saturday morning/lunch timeish the kids come to the centre for Bible Club- this video is at our old venue, with Genesis and a couple of the kids going nuts on the drums :)

About here I should apologise for the odd collection of photos and no captions- alot of the photos I've brought home won't open on my (aka dad's) computer, so the last lot were all ones I couldn't view, but somehow managed to upload- it was as much of a suprise for me as for you!

I've only got a few videos, so I'll upload some of them- Shayla, should the jazzercise one go up? Anywayz, more to come...

Elf

(Elf's dad has just come in and found the computer unattended. YES!!!!!! jazzercise should go up)
